Left: Marquise
Ledin (1613) Age 23. Wife of Brice Couppel de
Lépinay, Counsellor of the King and Marquis of Domfront.
Limestone slab but the head, hands, feet and what may be coats of
arms on either side of the head were of marble inset into the
stone; only the hands now remain. Below the figure is an
inscription of lead: 'Passant, ce marbre ne regarde, Ma
cendre n'est sous ce tombeau, Car mon cher mari la garde, Et son
coeur en est le vaisseau...'
Above: This effigy has be identified from a
document of 1633 as Pierre Ledin de Chatlerie, governor of
Domford in the last quarter of the 14th century. However this
identification is bogus as the Ledin family does not go back
beyond the end of the 15th century.
Right: J. Ledeboté (1606) Raised
lettering. |
